Started in 2008 by Paddy Joe Curran to raise funds for local charities the race grew in popularity year on year. Unfortunately Paddy Joe became ill and lost his battle to cancer in late 2011 and is remembered each year through the winner receiving the Paddy Joe Curran Memorial Cup.
There was a massive turnout at the Marine Bar for this years 5mile run and 4mile walk with participants coming from all over Waterford and Cork to take part.
After a full week of rain the sun came out, registration opened at 10.30am and while the walkers set off as and when they were ready the runners hit the road at 12 noon.
As well as a €7 donation at registration, money was raised through a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses. A hamper, bottle of whisky and dinner vouchers to name a few.

A total of 150 runners and 70 walkers took part and warmed up with tea, coffee and sandwiches in the Marine Bar afterwards. The prizes were presented and Therese O’Connell of CUAN House spoke of the organisation and thanked everyone who got involved.
A wonderful €3510 was raised and the Old Parish Turkey Trot committee presented a cheque to CUAN House Cancer Support Centre on 6th February 2016. Therese O’Connell accepted the cheque on behalf of the centre, “we are very grateful for the amount raised for our centre, the funds will be a huge addition as we intend on renovating the premises before opening to the public”.
